Poverty — the real educational indicator

Millions are spent assessing school and teacher performance in Ohio. Sadly, this practice distracts from the real educational indicator – poverty. The U.S. is experiencing an exponential increase in poverty rates, limiting the success of any school. Using Robert D. Putnam’s book, “Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis,” Shawnee Local (Allen) explains why poverty can no longer be ignored.
