Exhibitors: Beware of housing “pirates”
OSBA is aware of a fraudulent practice with people posing as OSBA representatives for the OSBA Capital Conference and Trade Show. These people do NOT represent OSBA and they may be trying to steal your credit card number and money. An exhibitor reported to OSBA that she was contacted by a company representing itself as OSBA, offering to sell them a booth in the trade show or get hotel rooms for them.
What you need to know: OSBA staff do not call exhibitors or district staff to book your hotel reservations. OSBA uses Passkey as its exclusive housing service provider. If you are contacted by anyone via phone, fax or email asking if you need a booth or a hotel room for Capital Conference, please get as much information as you can and pass it on to us. If you have questions, please contact Wanda Bloch at (614) 540-4000.
Exhibitors: Attendee List Scams
In years past, OSBA has been informed that Capital Conference exhibitors often are contacted by email, phone or fax with offers to purchase OSBA Capital Conference attendee lists. The intent is to convince you that the offer to purchase such lists is made on our behalf, or that the soliciting company is in some way associated with OSBA. This is not true. OSBA Capital Conference attendee lists are provided to all Capital Conference exhibitors as part of your booth investment.
The scam communication might inform exhibitors that they have the option to purchase an attendee list for Capital Conference for a stated fee or may offer the option to purchase the attendee list, but ask that the exhibitor contact the scammer for more information about pricing. Once the company is contacted and payment is made, the company either never provides a list, or provides an inaccurate list of fictitious contacts that are in no way associated with OSBA or Capital Conference.
